San Telmo Church
This church was built back in 1783 and is still in use today; nowadays Augustinian monks live there. It’s particularly popular with the Chiclaneros. It contains a statue of the Virgin Los Remedios (Chiclana’s patron saint), which was found back in the 16th century. It also contains some fascinating pictures from the artist Mulato. The church is located in C, La Plaza.
Santa Ana Hermitage
This is an impressive structure and probably Chiclana’s most well known building. It has a number of features that are reminiscent of Islamic and Byzantine architecture. It’s perched on a hill and can be seen from every part of the city; it stands out from the landscape. The large octagonal shaped building is surrounded by arches on every side. There is a statue of Saint Ana and the child virgin inside. It was made by a sculptor called Giscardi back in the 18th century. It’s well worth visiting, but only open on Tuesdays.
Jesus Nazareno Church and Convent
A fine example of baroque architecture, which we can see quite a lot of in Chiclana. It is considered one of the most important works from that period. The church dates back to the 16th century. It was built with profits made from trade between Spain and America. It has, what is considered by many, one of the most beautiful front doors in the whole of Cadiz province. The door is baroque in style and made of Carrara marble. Inside, have a look at the carving of Jesus Nazareno in the main altar – the churches other main feature.
